F.A.Q.

Is Re-Volt open source? If so, under what license?
Re-Volt v1.2 will be a free update to Re-Volt, but not open source as of now. The legal rights over the source code are unknown and we can't let it loose on the internet just yet.
How can I use v1.2 and WolfR4 side-by-side?
Just follow these steps:
  • Rename the v1.1 revolt.exe to something else (example: rv11.exe).
  • Open WolfR4 and go to "Command Lines" tab.
  • Find the option "Re-Volt Filename" and change it from revolt.exe to the new name (example: rv11.exe).
Now you are done! To register WolfR4 for lobby launchers, start WolfR4, go to Options -> Advanced -> Online and check "Register WolfR4 for Lobby Launchers" option. To register Re-Volt v1.2 for lobby launchers, uncheck the same option in WolfR4.
When trying to play online I don't see any sessions, get a black screen or "Can't Connect to Lobby Session" error!
Your network connection is being blocked by your Firewall or Router.
  • The following ports should be forwarded in your Router for both Inbound and Outbound connections:
    • TCP 47624, 2300-2400
    • UDP 47624, 2300-2400
These ports should be opened to your PC's internal IP address, which should be set up as static.
For more information and help, click here.
  • You should turn off your firewall or add revolt.exe to the exception list in Windows Firewall or any other Firewall software you might be using.
  • If you have a Firewall built inside your Router, you should turn it off or configure it to allow Re-Volt through it.

What's new in Re-Volt v1.2?
Re-Volt v1.2 is newly compiled from source code, and aims at fixing most existing bugs, adding new features and improving the general quality and user experience of the game. For a full list of new features in v1.2 check the Features and TODO sections. Re-Volt v1.2 will be fully compatible with the latest operating systems and hardware, while being backward compatible with old versions. It is meant to be a direct update for Re-Volt.
How is Re-Volt v1.2 superior over the other available Re-Volt related tools?
The previous programs and improvements made for the game directly modified Re-Volt during runtime and were very limited in their capabilities. Re-Volt v1.2 was re-compiled from the original source code.
What are the plans for Re-Volt's future after v1.2?
After Re-Volt v1.2 the basic plan is to re-build the game ground-up from a basic framework with updated technology, newer graphics/sound libraries and a more maintainable and manageable code. By then we will also insert an Auto-Update feature and continue the Re-Volt development from there.
Will Re-Volt v1.2 be a next generation version of Re-Volt?
No, Re-Volt v1.2 will not be a "next generation" version of Re-Volt. The project aims at pushing the existing Re-Volt engine to its max without having to update its basic structure, multimedia libraries, etc. Our goal for now is to spread the news that Re-Volt is alive and running, and is backed up by developers.
I don't have the source code, but I'm interested to know how Re-Volt functions work. Help me?
You can find information related to Re-Volt's file structures in Ali's Re-Volt File Structure Page and Hull Breakdown Page. You might also want to look at the tutorials and documents at The Re-Volt Archive. Note that these discoveries were made before we got the source code and cannot be 100% accurate. Any questions related to the internal working of the game can be asked in TTT Masters Class in ORP or The Engineering Box in RRR.
How can I get the best graphics quality out of Re-Volt?
In addition to setting all Re-Volt settings and resolution to maximum, you can force on Anti-Aliasing from your graphics card Control Panel, if your graphics card supports it. Forcing Anisotropic Filtering from your graphics card is not recommended, as Re-Volt v1.2 natively supports with Anisotropic Texture Filtering.
Re-Volt crashes while loading certain tracks. Help!
Make sure that you have updated your Re-Volt to the latest v1.2 release. All loading crashes and instabilities are now fixed.
Some Keyboard inputs stop working intermittently or has strange results.
Make sure that CapsLock key is off before starting Re-Volt and avoid pressing CapsLock when Re-Volt is running. CapsLock key, when on, was found to cause problems with Re-Volt, mostly in Windows Vista and 7.
I cannot select resolutions higher than 1280x1024. What's wrong?
Make sure Compatibility Mode is turned off. Older versions of Re-Volt required Compatibility Mode to run properly, but this is not required anymore with the new update. To turn off Compatibility Mode, follow these steps.
  • Right click revolt.exe file in your Re-Volt directory and go to Properties.
  • In the Properties window, click on Compatibility Tab.
  • Make sure the "Run this program in compatibility mode for" checkbox is unchecked, and click OK.

My Re-Volt settings are not saved and Re-Volt is not detected by Lobby launchers like RVHouse.
This happens when Re-Volt does not have permission to access the registry and/or certain folders in your PC. Run Re-Volt as Administrator to solve the problem. To run the game as Administrator, follow these steps:
  • Right click revolt.exe file in your Re-Volt directory and go to properties.
  • In the Properties window, click on Compatibility Tab.
  • Under Privileges section, check the "Run this program as an administrator" checkbox. You will need to enter the Administrator account password.
  • Click OK to save the setting.
