The WebsiteWe are looking for web developers with good knowledge in PHP/SQL and/or JavaScript to manage and improve this website. We would also like to add a registration and mailing system for the website. Anyone interested is welcome to contact us.The Source CodeThe source code which is responsible for the development of Re-Volt v1.2 comes from an Xbox port of Re-Volt planned in 2002. The port was eventually canceled as the contract to finish the port was never finalized. Few years later, we received the source from one of the Xbox developers, who had asked us to keep him anonymous. Here's a snapshot of an old article in Xbox live website.Farewell to Re-Volt Published November 9, 2007 (This article was originally published January 8, 2003.) It is now time to bid farewell to our old friend Re-Volt. This simple RC racer was the very first Live-enabled game in North America, and continues to be the game of choice for launching Xbox Live in new regions. It was a great little game, and it served us well. Re-Volt was a real workhorse for Xbox Live. Before it was even ready to see the light of day in the Technical Beta, it was being used to demo the Live Service to Microsoft execs and the Press. The game may not have been polished, but Re-Volt still managed to get the message across of what we were trying to do, and how very cool the service was going to be. "Not sure how much longer
Re-Volt will be supported! Could today be the last day? C'mon
all you beta testers, let's go for another spin in the Botanical
Garden..."

From the first moment that people here at Xbox strapped on prototype communicators and popped in the first Re-Volt discs, we knew we had something extremely cool. The hallways were filled with the sounds of smack talk, screeching tires, and revving engines. Who would have thought you could take a simple RC racing game, add online competition and voice communication, and come up with a completely different, completely compelling game? Penny Butler, Program Manager for the Technical Beta remembers, "After weeks of harassing J [Allard] to get online with his beta kit and play some Re-Volt, he finally complied. He swung by my office with his eyes on fire. 'Oh my God, this is FUN!' Well, duh. Oh yeah … J also got his butt kicked by some 13 year old in California." And though we know Re-Volt was not a perfect game, we all owe it a debt of gratitude. Because all those great Live features that you know and love today were first tested with Re-Volt. But now its time has come to an end. If you spent any time racing a little car through the supermarket or over the decks of a sinking ship, talking trash and trying like anything to cross the finish line first, consider yourself lucky. From all the beta testers and gamers who took it for a spin, thanks Re-Volt. You will be missed.
The legal rights over the source code is still unknown. While Throwback Entertainment purchased the rights over Re-Volt from Acclaim Entertainment (now defunct), the Xbox source code was in development by Microsoft. At the same time, Microsoft could not have rights over the canceled port either. So it is possible that our rare source code is Abandon ware. It has also come to our attention that Throwback Entertainment has sold the Re-Volt title over to an unknown Korean company. Due to the unclear status of the source code, it will not be made open. It could still be possible to directly contact us and join as a programmer in this project, at a later stage of development. Any help in clearing the status and possibly obtaining us a license over the game, is most welcome. CreditsWe would like to thank everyone who had helped and supported the project during the Alpha stage of development. Particularly, without the help of Urnemanden, CracK, Skarma and all the other Beta-Testers, we wouldn't have reached this far.We would also like to thank the Anonymous person who had given us the source code back in 2006, and the guys of our community who had received and kept it safe for all this time. Not to forget Kallel (Kay) who had personally sent me the source code. Thanks to ADX for designing the website and Zach for hosting it in his domain. Re-Volt v1.2 builds its base upon the flexible Re-Volt engine and the documents and information left behind by the original developers, combining with the work and discoveries of different people of the community from the past - most recently WolfR4. The new version will bring together such tools, and reflect the different achievements made by them.
